Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia)
Social Anxiety Disorder (Also called social phobia) can be describe as the unreasonable fear of social situations and activites. A person with this disorder is constantly in fear of others watching, judging, and criticizing them. They constantly fear that they will make mistakes in front of others that will embarrass and/or humiliate them. They lack the basic social skills that makes it difficult to make and/or keep friends. As a result of the fear, they may avoid being around others and public social situations. They suffer from distorted thinking, including false beliefs about a social situation and negative opinions of others. They may also suffer from "anticipatory" anxiety, or the fear of a situation before it even happens for days or weeks before the event.
